BANGLADESH MATH OLYMPIAD :Let the second differential of all be negative!
WHAT IS BDMO?
Bangladesh Math Olympiad (BdMO) is an annual competition that aims to promote mathematical excellence among students. The BdMO is organized by the Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee, a non-profit organization that was founded in 2001.Prothom Alo and Dutch Bangla Bank are the sponsors of the event.
HOW DOES BDMO WORK?
There are multiple rounds
of competition in the BdMO, which is open to students from grades 3 to 12.The
BDMO has four categories :Primary,Junior,Secondary and Higher secondary. Primary
category is for students from grade 3 to 5,junior category is for students from
grade 6 to 8 ,secondary category is for students from grade 9 to 10 and
the higher secondary category is for students from grade 11 to 12.The
first round of BDMO is held in different areas in bangladesh. This round is
known as Regional round and the members of the math olympiad conduct this
round. The test consists of short-answer questions.Mainly Questions are made
from four topics : Number theory,Geometry, combinatorics and Algebra. The
International Mathematical Olympiad's syllabus is used to create the
questions. After selecting the winners from first round, the students have to participate
the second round which is known as National Round. It is held in Dhaka.Winners
from the different regions participate here.In National round, the exam is more
tough.Normally It is a 4 hours long exam and the test consists of big questions
where students have to do the whole math with proper explanation.. The winners
from this round are then invited to participate in the final round of the
competition. The final round is the Camp round where the winners have to stay 12
days .Students at this camp receive proper mathematical instruction from
qualified instructors and mathematicians. Also, they take part in activities
that foster the growth of their mathematical abilities and creativity, such as
team competitions, talks, and other events. The top six students from this round
are chosen to participate in the International Math Olympiad.

BANGLADESH’S ACHIEVEMENTS AT IMO
The worldwide mathematical competition for high school students is called the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO).Last year around 40000 students participated in regional round and this year around 45000 students paticipated in regional round.Bangladesh is doing amazing at International Math Olympiad(IMO).Bangladesh first participated in IMO in 2005 .In 2005, Bangladesh scored only 3 out of 252 in IMO.In 2009,Bangladesh won first bronze medal in IMO.In 2018,Bangladesh won the first gold medal in IMO.Ahmed Jawad Chowdhury won the medal.Last year,IMO was held in Norway and Bangladesh ranked 57th out of
104 countries.
BANGLDESH’S ACHIEVEMENTS AT
OTHER INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIADS
Not only in IMO bangladesh
is doing great in other math olympiads also.Last year, for the first
time,Bangladesh participated in European Girls Math Olympiad and won two
medals.Nujhat Ahmed Disha, from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Rayan
Bintay Mostafa, from Natore Government Girls' High School won silver and
bronze medal.Bangladesh is also participating in Asia Pacific Math
Olympiad,Iranian Geometry Olympiad and combinatorics olympiad.Asia
Pacific Olympiad is held in BRAC university and in 2021,Bangladesh won first
gold medal.
WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE STUDENTS?
These olympiads are creating huge opportunity for the students in Bangladesh. Many students are studying in the top universities of the world. They are contributing to many sectors in Bangladesh.Nazia Akhter who won bronze medal in 2009,got the opportunity to study at MIT and currently working at National Univesity of Singapore. Also, many of them are working in many famous companies like google, yahoo, linked in etc.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I participated in math Olympiad in my school days and was selected for national round two times.Every year I eagerly waited for this event.I met a lot of friends through math Olympiad. Now,I have started working as an academic member at Bangladesh Math Olympiad. After working here for months,I have gained a lot of experiences.I went to many areas of Bangladesh to conduct the regional round.I met many talented students and also learned to work many important skills. The olympiad committee is like my family now. The residential camp ended a few days ago .However,The team for IMO is not selected yet.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, it should be
noted that the Bangladesh Math Olympiad is a famous contest that strives to
encourage students in Bangladesh to achieve in mathematics. The numbers of
participants are increasing day by day and Bangladesh is doing great at
International competitions. The BdMO has played an important role in the
promotion of mathematics education in Bangladesh and has helped foster a new
generation of mathematicians and problem solvers.
